Also known as an ?Ancient Incan Super Food?, lucuma is a naturally sweet fruit with bright yellow flesh and an impressive nutritional profile. Our organic lucuma grows in the jungles of the Ayacucho region of Peru on evergreen trees that are known to reach up to 15 metres in height.
Described as ?gold of the Incas?, lucuma fruits are green-yellow spherical balls similar in size to grapefruits. Lucuma is characterised by its bright yellow flesh and pumpkin-like texture ? often used in cooking to add sweetness. Taking 9 months to ripen, the flesh is far to hard to eat before maturity needing a period of storage under hay to allow the fruit to soften.
Our fibre-rich lucuma is washed, diced, and then dehydrated at temperatures below 45?C before being finely milled into a premium powder. Purity is ensured through extensive microbial testing as well as careful storage procedures in order to preserve the delicious butterscotch-caramel flavour. Versatile and easy to use, the natural sweetness of the product means it can be a perfect substitute for refined sugar.
