Originating from the old Spanish and Portuguese word ?coquo? meaning ?small animal? or ?head/skull?, ?coconut? got its name after indentations in the shell resembled the skull of a monkey. Growing on ?cocoa nucifera? trees, coconuts are found as high as 30m, falling rapidly to ground once ripe. As part of the palm tree family, coconut trees are found in warm, tropical climates where rainfall is abundant and cool temperatures scarce.
Coconut milk is made by grating the white inner flesh of mature coconuts and mixing the shredded coconut pulp with a small amount of hot water to suspend the fat present in the grated pulp. Coconut milk still contains approximately 50% of coconut oil content and has much of the nutritional content of the raw coconut preserved. The powdered form is produced through the spray drying the raw unsweetened milk.
