Mulberries, also known as Morus, are both sweet and nutritious, cultivated in temperate regions around the world. Our organic dried white mulberries come from the white mulberry tree in Eastern Turkey and are only purchased from suppliers that are part of the ?Happy Village Project?. This project helps optimise Turkish farming and improve the socio-economic structure of villages.
Referred to as the wisest of trees, the mulberry is one of the last trees to blossom in spring postponing its growth until conditions are at their most favorable. As a result of its judicious timing, the tree was dedicated to the Roman Goddess of wisdom, Minerva, and it is thought that its generic name ? Morus ? derives from the Latin word mora, meaning delay.
Mulberry trees have been planted for reasons other than their fruit, most notably in China, where the leafy foliage has been used as silkworm fodder for centuries. First discovered around 27BCE, silk manufacture remained a closely guarded secret under Imperial law through several legends have described the smuggling of mulberry seeds to other parts of Asia.
